The Jaded Jesters Society is an independent literary magazine established in 2026 by Ash Muzzillo.
Jesters have always been political figures. Their responsibility was not only to entertain, but to utilize their unique privilege in order to provide sage political advice, social commentary, and a bridge between the interests of the common folk and those of the elite classes. Jesters were performers, poets, public speakers, messengers, soldiers, intellectuals, and agitators.
Some jesters throughout history were also physically, psychologically, and/or intellectually disabled. They were mocked, dehumanized, and devalued outside of their ability to entertain.
Jester’s privilege is the ability to speak, criticize, and express freely without threat of reprimand or punishment. Jesters used this special right to challenge kings, speak out against corrupt religious institutions, and educate the masses through comedy, theatre, poetry, song, storytelling, and spectacle.
The goal of TJJS is to find today’s jesters and restore their privilege by providing a space where they can let it rip. For those who have been outcast from the “norm”, scarred by authority, and systemically tread upon, this is an outlet for them to be seen and heard by their true peers. For everyone tired of hearing history’s rhymes, desperately trying to spin the Earth in a new direction for once, this is a resource to find others who are just as jaded and not at all crazy, no matter how much it may seem that way.
